Sweet Success: The Power of Confectionery in Promotional Marketing.

I used to think that handing out confectionery as a promotional item wasn’t nearly as good as standard merch, like a pen, notebook, or drink bottle.

But then I tried it.

And boy, the marketing recall was waayy better!

For me, I decided on:

  • a light bulb shaped to represent my brainstorming of ideas. Get it…the light bulb moment of thinking of a great merch idea!
  • jelly beans, as it was coming close to summer, so I didn’t want to do chocolate.
  • purple and green jelly beans to represent my Levella Promotions colors.
  • full-color print label so people will remember who gave it to them.

I would walk into companies (those that knew me and also strangers), and people were very attentive as I had jelly beans in my hand.

But the memory recall was the best. I found this out when I went into a client of mine six months later, and they called out, “Hey! There’s our jelly bean guy!” That was great for my ego!

So there is room for both standard merch and confectionery merch in our world. Different items for different occasions. You don’t need to hand them both out at once. Use jelly beans for some occasions, and pens, coffee cups, or mouse mats for other times.
